On the ritual, its botanicals, preparation or care, write to the House.
An evening ritual for the hour before rest. Whole botanicals and a little essential oil in a close-woven pod, lowered into 350 to 400 ml of hot water and breathed as vapour.
Not a medicine, a beverage, a supplement or a sleep aid.
No. Lift it out and discard it — after the ritual where a bowl has been used, or at the end of the day where it has stayed in the kettle.
As often in a day as the day asks for it.
In a bowl, one pod per ritual, discarded with the water afterwards. In a kettle the pod stays where it is and the water may be reheated with it for a second or third sitting through the same day.
Discard the pod and the water at the end of that day. Do not carry one into the next, and do not leave a pod standing in water overnight.
Seven pods, seven evenings. In a kettle a single pod may carry more than one sitting within its day. The box is kept; only refills are reordered.
Two methods, same timing, and the same 350 to 400 ml of water to a pod.
Bowl or wide cup. Hot, not boiling, water in a stable bowl, one pod in. Lean in from a safe distance and breathe softly for seven to ten minutes.
Kettle. One pod in, heat to about 80°C without boiling. Open the lid carefully, lean in from a safe distance and breathe softly for seven to ten minutes.
The pod stays in the kettle between sittings, and the water may be reheated with it later the same day.
Closed, upright, away from sunlight, heat and damp. A pod kept badly will smell of less. Every box carries the guide.
No. Inhalation of vapour only. The pod, its contents and the water are never to be swallowed, brewed or cooked with.
Discard the water when the ritual, or the day, is done.
No. If it touches the skin, rinse with cool water.
Not in pregnancy or breastfeeding without speaking to your doctor. Not on children; keep the box out of reach.
Anyone with asthma, chronic respiratory illness, fragrance-triggered migraine or a known sensitivity should speak to a doctor first. Anyone under medical care for a sleep condition should continue it.
The just-boiled water is the principal hazard. Stable, heat-resistant surface, away from edges, children and animals; do not move it once filled.
Lean in from a safe distance to breathe the vapour, never directly above it, and never with the head tented above it. The vapour should feel comfortably warm, never hot. Keep the eyes closed.
Responses to aromatics differ. On any irritation, headache, dizziness or skin reaction, stop, move to fresh air, and see a doctor if it persists.
Tulsi, Rose, Lavender buds and Chamomile, whole and dried, with the essential oils of Frankincense, Lavender and Sweet Orange.
Each ingredient is tested on its own before it enters the blend.
Frankincense as oil, not resin. No synthetic fragrance, colourant, preservative or propellant.
The full composition is printed on the box and set out in the Botanical Library.
Established Indian suppliers and the House’s Indian production network. Each intake arrives with documentation and is checked against specification.
Each batch carries a number printed on the box.
Verified azo-free, chosen to hold botanicals in just-boiled water without shedding fibre or releasing dye.
An external-use aromatherapy preparation, not a food, beverage, nutraceutical or supplement.
Not an article of food, so outside the FSSAI licensing remit.
No, and it does not require one. An AYUSH licence attaches to a product marketed as an ayurvedic, siddha or unani medicine. ZANAR makes no such claim.
It is nonetheless made in a facility holding an AYUSH manufacturing licence, to that facility’s hygiene, documentation and batch-control standards.
Because it would be untrue, and unlawful. Under Indian law a product claiming to cure, treat or prevent a condition is regulated as a medicine. ZANAR claims no medical outcome of any kind.
What can honestly be said of a warm, quiet ritual is that it is a deliberate way to close the day.
